Wormentel 500 Mg is a drug that is prescribed for the treatment of different parasitic infections. It contains fenbendazole, and it treats several types of infections related to ringworms, whipworms, and tapeworms. It can treat worms in the intestine and the respiratory tract. The medicine is only available with a prescription.
How does it work?
Wormentel 500 Mg combines itself with the parasitic worm and cuts the glucose supply channel. Thus, it starves the parasites to death. After killing the worms, it excretes them with stool and then acts on the infection area to reduce the itching, redness, and inflammation.
Dosage of Wormentel
Wormentel 500 Mg can be used in mild infections and major infections. Dosages for mild infection are 150mg and are to be taken 3 times daily for 3-5 days. For children, the dosage will be 150mg twice daily for 3 days. Each of the tablets must be taken in a gap of 8 hours. In case of managing any missed dose, it must not be less than 6 hours.
The same can be managed with Wormentel 500 Mg, where the dosage will be single in a day for 5 days in adults, and for 3 days in children. The doses are to be taken with a meal in each case.
For major infections, the dosage can be made twice with 500mg, and the duration of taking it can be extended to 21 days. In case the dosage is maintained at 150mg, the same will be triple for adults and double for children. Duration will be determined by doctors in either case.
The drug is recommended to be used for children above the age of 2 only. Using it for treating parasitic infection in kids below 2 years must be decided solely by a doctor.
Dosage administration
A dose of Wormentel must be taken orally without breaking or dismantling it. It is available in different dosages. Hence, take the drug in the required dosage, but never break any pill into pieces.
The dosages are meant for adults and children over the age of 2 years. However, infants can also be given Wormentel 500 Mg, but the decision of giving them the drug must be made by a doctor alone. The dosage then might be decided according to the weight of the patient.
Precautionary measures
If you are taking any chemotherapy, talk to your doctor as he prescribes you Wormentel 500 Mg, as it will not work with chemotherapy.
Women who are taking contraceptive pills to rule out pregnancy can find unappreciated pregnancy while taking Wormentel, as the drug reduces the effect of contraceptive pills. Further protection while doing sexual activities is recommended.
Show your medical reports to your doctor, in case you are taking any medicines for your liver or kidney treatment. This is because of the fact that Wormentel can affect both these drugs and form some serious side effects, which can even lead to impairment of the organ.
In case you are taking any antibiotic like erythromycin, keep a distance of at least 2-3 hours between the two drugs, as it has often been reported that one drug among antibiotics and Wormentel diffuse the other.
Alcohol can induce some mild to serious burning sensations in your intestine, and that even affects your liver. Hence, avoid alcohol, and also avoid driving after taking Wormentel, as the drug causes mild to heavy dizziness.
